Featured Today I found flutes

Hey everyone,

Today is a quick post, because I'm trying to do some spring cleaning. I found these today at the thrift store. They didn't get priced at my usual "rock bottom" price that I find, but the price was reasonable so I grabbed them:

 

silver head , i get......but solid silver means........?? plate?

 

Hmm, great question I realize you might be right. I was buying it anyways at the price offered, because I can still sell it for a profit, but I might have assumed wrong about that term.

If that info is correct, those ought to sell for a nice chunk of change.

 

I don't know much about wind instruments, but value can be drastically lower if the pads are not in good shape, because having them replaced is expensive.
There is an easy test for air-tightness, but you may know that already, or others can probably explain it better than I. Or take them to a good repair shop, and they'll probably be happy to tell you whether they need work.

 

OTOH, if these are unplayable, the scrappers will love 'em if nothing else. Sterling flutes aren't cheap, so it might be worth selling them as is even if the pads are no good.

 

I think the best buyer is a music repair shop. Sell it to them "cheap" and they can then invest the time in repairs, and 'upsell' to students with cheap instruments (more particularly the parents) as they come through lower and secondary school bands.

 

The sterling ones are generally for professionals, but a serious amateur would want one too. Around here repair shops are few and far between.
