Hi Charlie! Looks like bakelite to me too, carved with power tools. Later similar design patterns were carved to make wood bangles. I like it. I think a bakelite bangle collector will be out there to buy it for the clatter this will make against his / her other bangles!

I know. Watch out for my new found political correctness. It doesn't happen often! :cat:

No, sorry I don't know but I would sort of guess more recent than early on. Bakelite had a pretty long run.

I keep thinking some man / woman got ahold of an old field telephone handset and carved this out of it on their lathe! Ok, I do have an active imagination!!

    Hi,
If it has a sweet smell it is not bakelite. bakelite has a very strong arid smell.

The Bakelite odour always reminds me of a school science lab.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Acrid, you mean? Probably too late for you to edit the post so thought I'd mention that idea.

    Hi Fig,
Sorry about that. I did mean acrid, funny that spell check did not catch it.

Maybe spell check didn't work because "arid" is a real word. You know that technological intelligence has its limits. :)

And of course I wasn't criticizing. I am a typo expert... I almost always have to edit my posts after submitting them.
