Antique Wooden Religious Panels

Hope you all are doing well! It's been a while. I'm back in Europe for a little while and have been hitting up flea markets again. I couldn't resist this pair of religious plaques, even though at 90x45x3 cm, they're going to be a pain to ship home. I'd love to get your thoughts on them. They look quite old to me. Something tells me they're 1700s or earlier, based on the patina. Your thoughts?

 

I wonder if they were stations of the cross? Lovely patina,and I think I see wormwood holes so they might indeed have some age.

 

Very nice Barn-what area did you find them in ? E.Europe,Spain,etc ?

 

That's an interesting possibility! I'll research that to see if I can find other examples.

How was antiquing over there,we're planning to be in Spain next year ? Were the prices any lower (can't even imagine what shipping costs).

is the centre metal bar there to strengthen it?

Does not appear so to this former Catholic school girl.
All 14 stations of the cross (note the back of one of the wood plaques shown is marked XXII or 22) should include Jesus... none include someone with a book.
Nevertheless, they are quite beautiful. I hope you're able to find out more about them!

EDIT: I think they are meant to depict The Annunciation.

Pretty good! Shipping was expensive, but I also shipped some rugs back, so that was part of it.

 

Spain isn't that noted for antique shopping, it's not a Thing. And you don't get car boots and fleas much. There's some decent shops in Barcelona. Lisbon had way more though.

I think maybe the original braces or hangers. I'm not sure what the center bar is there for. Thought you might appreciate this huge (Yemenite hirz?) pendant I found in Marrakech

 

Yeah, there were more flea markets in Germany But next month is Athens, and I adore Ottoman and folk jewelry, so fingers crossed I come across some good finds.

I'm a digital nomad for the time being. My job is remote, so I decided to spend 3 months in the Schengen Zone, then probably go to the UK or Canada for another 3-6 months. It's been cheaper than staying in the US, surprisingly.
