Now @kyratango , let's tell it like it is, rather than the way you wish it was! I pause this hijack so someone can help Gosia on her question.............. To be continued...........
maybe they see something we don't ........ but they didn't elaborate.....or offer any facts......or opinions.....soooooooo...talk is cheap !
I our 'real world', here in Brabant, someone who behaves like that would be told to behave or leave. Some Hollanders could be intimidated, but here we have a healthy dislike of anyone who tries to come over 'authoritarian' or agressive in any way. In other parts of 'the real world' you could be lynched, or poisoned. Sorry, no choice between the two, depends on the region.
Well, I dunno about europe but in the USA, big time construction projects are a man's world, it's dog eat dog and the first bite counts! Those that can't cut it are well advised to stay away.
And those that can't adapt to the 'real world', the one outside the protective limits of those US construction projects were men can still behave like schoolboys, are well advised to stay inside that limited safe zone. Everyone in my family has traveled the world for work etc, and if we had behaved like that, we literally wouldn't have survived 5 minutes. That's the real world.
As komo said, they should have told you. Value depends on things like age, condition, size, and desirability in your location. It isn't very old, possibly even repro, it looks to be in good condition, and though not big, it is a useful size. Maybe that helps.
Sorry @Gosia! You deserve better If yours is newer as any said, it's still a nice decorative piece. Here's a listing for 4-1/2 of them on ebay! That is asking price, so keep in mind they may get less. Still, $40 is truly a steal. These were selling on Amazon, but discontinued so can't see a price. I'd start at 1/2 of retail and wait patiently for offers. They aren't that hard to find, if you're looking for prices. Look for Korean style medicine chest with features and age similar to yours
40 GBP = a little more than 50 USD. If this were mine, I would be shooting for about triple that or just a bit under, assuming good condition. My market is a bit off from most major metropolitan areas. I do not know how it compares to the UK.
Scouts, those are cherrywood, which is always much more expensive than the wood on Gosia's. Koreans traditionally use quality woods like cherry or walnut, which to me was one of the clues that Gosia's was not Korean but a cheaper Chinese repro. To give you an idea of of the difference, here is a recent Korean walnut cabinet: https://www.bellacor.com/productdet...e-18-drawer-herbal-medicine-chest-1524281.htm There is a considerable difference in the quality of wood, craftsmanship, detail and elegance between Gosia's repro cabinet and this real Korean walnut cabinet. Not just the legs, wood, finish and brass details, but also the sharp edges and tight fit of the Korean drawers. Korea: Gosia's repro: So, to avoid confusion and get a fair idea of the price, look at Chinese repro furniture, not Korean medicine cabinets. I don't know current prices for Chinese repros, but I bought a repro Chinese elmwood bridal wardrobe in the 90s for the equivalent of 30 euros. In those days genuine Korean cabinets were slightly more expensive than they are now.
Gosia, depending on where you are, a decent local auction house might be a good route. I know some, so give me a hint on location.
Thanks for the correction and education, @Any Jewelry I can admit I didn't read the listing nor did I inspect the images to see for myself if the chests were new, Chinese or Korean Only tried to give @Gosia a leg up on finding comparables, probably new or at least contemporary... The topic lurched so far afield, I just wanted to do my part to rectify the hijacks.
