2 Modern Hand Burnishers for Machine-Shop Use

    This is a posting promised in the Pottery thread 'Sweet Little Mouse...' a few days ago. There's a handful of other, more primitive burnishers which I'll share pics of when I find them...real soon now...in this thread.

    The one with the red handle is a Brookstone tool; the other is for use primarily in the aircraft industry, for use on aluminum. They're (probably) case-hardened steel, which has then been mirror polished.

    I'm not suggesting these are pottery-working utensils. Smooth stones, bone and hardwoods are ancient and widely available burnishing instruments used by Santa Clara & San Ildefonso Pueblo artisans for centuries.

    They both can be used to burnish jewelry bezels,etc...
