Sorry I’m spamming the forum tonight!
Can anyone date this little old necklace and ID the stone please?
It’s got one of those little pin cylinder clasps and it feels quite old.
The stone is like turquoise but greener with purple veins and one of the stones is quite purple.
The tiny beads have a pattern to them and I think they are maybe metal?.
    Thanks very much
    :)

Looks like dyed Chinese mystery stones, howlite, magnasite, etc.Possibly hobbyist made from materials at a bead shop.

They reused an old clasp. No idea how old it is.

It looks like a box clasp,I believe they are still made today.

It certainly doesn't feel professionally made.
More photos of clasp which is a cylinder.

Love those brass beads, KSW. They could be Indian.
The turquoisy beads don't have the uniform colour usually seen on dyed magnesite or howlite. Whatever they are, probably Chinese or Tibetan.
The pearls are faux, that little ring in the last photo is what remains of a broken glass end of the pearl.

The thin cylindrical style of the box clasp was already used in the 18th century, but I have also seen them from the early 20th. As Holly said, they could still be made, although I haven't seen recent ones.
This one looks old to me and it could be worthwhile to have it tested. Someone could accidentally have used an old gold one.:wideyed::)

Clasp is certainly old, they don't make those cylinder shaped ones as new fittings.

    kyratango Bug jewellery addiction!

Agree it is old, certainly restrung in same pattern.
I had those tiny beads with same texture in a 1800s necklace part (re used on some projects I can't remember...).
The glass pearl simulants were used too in same 1800s era:)

Short. Not sure if it would be for a child?. It’s telling me it’s old. But then jewellery has been known to lie to me before!

Did anyone ever tell you you are really quite good at this?!:hilarious:.
It would have helped if I had actually looked at the clasp more carefully .

    I have my moments.:playful:
As obb said, an old British clasp. Looks 19th century to me.
Wouldn't it be nice if the small brass beads turned out to be small gold beads?
No, that is an adult's length, double 19cm with at least an extra cm for the clasp, so 39+cm. It would fit me, and I am not the most thin-necked person in the world.

    Love the ruler.:)

So if this is 19th c does that rule in or out any types of stones?. Are we talking early/mid/late 19th c? Think I'd better find it a box of its own to reside in!
I'll test the beads on a touchstone but suspect brass as they don't want to polish.

The clasp may well be far older than most of the rest of it, I think it's been made up.

I think the clasp is older too. But the necklace has age, maybe early 20th?

I'm not sure about the stones being that early?

Do you mean because of the sheen on them?

More the shape - I've not seen much 19th with that type. But the sheen is a good point too.
