Charlie or Ches, (whichever you prefer!), see if either of these help.....the first one should be inversed.....the other (second, I hope) should show a bit of your baby powder!!

Does not appear to say Santa Clara (or San Ildefonso), which you would expect if it was Pueblo.

    Very nice jug, Charlie.
I think so too. If you look past the colour, the shape and decoration are very European.

In former centuries black pottery was made in many places in Europe, but this jug clearly isn't antique. I have been trying to remember where black pottery was still made, and the light bulb moment finally came at 4 am. Lithuania!:wideyed:

I am not saying this is definitely Lithuanian, but it is worth looking into. The name, as far as we can read it, could be Lithuanian, they often have long names ending in -is or -as.
The styles are very diverse, since most black pottery is studio pottery.

You've nailed the style and country of origin, Charlie! Different maker though. If you search for Nádudvar black pottery you will find more.

And yes, Hungary was another one hidden in the mists of childhood memory. My mother collected European pottery. Returning from holidays always meant us kids in the back of the car were squeezed in between boxes and basketloads of ceramics.:playful:

The top word seems to match Fazekas--Hungarian. Can't get the rest. Fazekas means potter and is also the surname of a famous Hungarian pottery family.
