The connection between Norway and the Low Countries is much, much older than that, but we won't go into that.;)
I don't really iunderstand how a Dutch-Norwegian connection points to Dutch East India, rather than for instance South Africa or the Dutch West Indies or Dutch North America.

Dutch East India means parts of India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Deshima in Japan, and parts of Taiwan. I am probably forgetting some, but anyway, that is an enormous range of cultures. But truthfully, I can't really see this in any of those countries. But I would love to be proven wrong, after all, we are all here to learn and share.
I still think Latin America though.
There were shops selling Latin American furniture, antiques and artifacts here in the Netherlands in the 1960s, so why not in Norway? After all, countries are never isolated blobs on the map.
My ancestors have quite an international background, which includes Dutch Hanseatic as well as Indonesian, which explains a bit about my interest in both Nordic and Asian. And just about anything else.:D
I know very little about values, sorry. I am more into (art)history and symbolism.
I have to pass on the period as well, the origin still hasn't been confirmed. It could have been repainted at some stage, which also makes it more difficult.

as i have mentioned in another post there were thousands of norwegians in holland at the founding of the voc and worked for them. the voc merchant fleet i believe first arrived in norway in 1665. i may be wrong. its been a while.

it could simply be copying a picture frame or something really small and simple like a box border.

I will have to start memorizing your posts.:playful:
On second thought, sorry no, too much on my mind already.:)

Anyway, if we just look at Dutch Norwegian relations with regards to the VOC (Dutch East India Company), according to my VOC information the first Norwegians began to work for the VOC in 1580. The Viking and Hanseatic connections are much older of course. The East India trade was a result of the Dutch contribution to the Hanseatic trade, in the beginning it was like an eastward expansion of that trade.

1665 is a significant year in the history of Bergen, Norway.
As a result of the Anglo-Dutch wars, Dutch VOC ships had to circumnavigate the British Isles and take a northern route to the Dutch Republic.
In 1665 seven VOC ships hid in Bergen before being able to continu on to the Republic. But the British located them and tried to capture the ships and rich trade goods which included gold, spices, silks, gemstones and porcelain.
The Dutch sent a fleet as well to protect the merchant ships. A battle followed, the Norwegians sided with the Dutch (thank you Norway :)), and the VOC ships and their treasures got away.
But as I said, the VOC-Norwegian connection is older than that, and the Dutch-Norwegian connection much older still.

The Strydhagen collection is enormous, it looks more like a quality storage facility.;)

I used to have a shop selling Asian antiques. Later on my husband and I sold Asian antiques and ethnic jewellery online.
