    Hello, picked up this piece the other day. I'm thinking it was made to look old, but thought I'd check with what you thought. It's 20" high by 13" wide. Thank you! 2007-11-12 02.22.15 (2).jpg 2007-11-12 02.22.37 (2).jpg 2007-11-12 02.13.56 (4).jpg 2007-11-12 02.15.22 (3).jpg 2007-11-12 02.12.53 (4).jpg 2007-11-12 02.16.06 (3).jpg

To me, and I'm no expert here, it looks like maybe a Scandinavian pull toy with some age to it.......but then the colors could be more indicative of India.....there's always the possibility I'm wrong on both points too!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

The wood/gesso/paint thing is often Russian or Kashmiri. I'd suspect Kashmir in this case. It's not antique, but might be older. Dunno.

They're attractive, but I'd have paid about $5 each in an import store back in the 80s. If that. Antique they ain't.

I'm trying to think along the lines of what culture would make a kid's horsie toy as a mare nursing a foal. Does it have a place where some kind of cord could have been attached to make it a pull toy?

It is cute, but as the others said fairly recent, and made in India for export. Probably made in Rajasthan, NW India.
The word temple was probably added because he/she confused them with small bronze 'temple toys', which are on wheels.
A culture where they know there are horse and cuteness fans in richer countries.;):)

If you looked carefully at that front image you can see a hole where something was attached for a rope or 'something'......on the base part..... at least of one of those end views is the front end!!!!!:smuggrin::smuggrin:

People are willing to pay for the photography which is usually excellent.

Thank you everyone for your input! There isn't a place for a string to have been attached.
