Found today in a different store from the last one... I photographed this one with the price tag still on it, because if I was looking at these finds I would assume MrNate is making this stuff up:

My God! I think I need to swear to sell my hoard. Maybe then I'll start having some luck, haha.

BINGO! I found a sterling picture frame today, but most of it's velvet-covered whats-it. But solid sterling Tiffany ... Score! Clean it up and into the hoard it goes!

    Congrats!

I'm not a thrift store guy, but my brother is.

He gets lucky occasionally, but he said there's a ton of competition scouring the shelves with their loupes out.

Kind of a funny story, he took photos of a pair of expensive shoes in the display aisle and posted them on eBay while still in the store and they sold that quick. :greedy:

Holy shart!!! I’ve found bowls and pitchers with sterling bases. Ashtrays with sterling rims. Never any solid sterling and I look a lot. You can tell tons of people are looking where I am because all the stickers have been lifted and torn. I will still look but thats no longer my primary reason for going. Others look for that and not much else but there’s tons of other good stuff to be had there. Silver hunting got me going to thrift shops and the other stuff has kept me going.

    J Dagger,

I do know what you mean about the "other stuff" keeping you going. As much as I have found some amazing silver finds, I wouldn't travel to all the stores I go to and spend as much time as I do thrifting if it weren't for all the other stuff I buy and sell. This is my favorite part of the hobby, but by no means the most profitable part of the hobby.

For sure! It’s not even the first section I check anymore. I just get to it in the natural order of the aisles now. What region of the country are you in out of curiosity? I’ve found a couple weighted candle sticks too but again nothing big. Some great and sometimes valuable jewelry but nothing heavy. Speaking of that how heavy is the cake stand? Still my favorite thing to find too but way to few and far between, not to mention small to keep doing it for just that for me. Just bought a great print for $5 yesterday that’s probably worth $400-$900 or so along with a sterling bracelet for $16 worth probably $100-$150. Those were fun Maybe one day that case full of sterling silverware will be sitting there waiting for me. Congrats on the Tiffany!

I hit some really plain jane silverware on Christmas Eve, believe it or not. The silver buyer I flipped it to had walked right past it the same day thinking it was plated. I had pointed it out as a set of silverware to a guy I KNOW is a dealer who passed it up because he only wanted forks and not a whole silverware set. OKfine. It was in the jewelry case and I looked at it because it was there. Instead of 50s wedding silverplate it was 50s wedding sterling. "I'll take this please". So it does happen; you just have to keep your eyes peeled.
