Featured Artist name identification/decipher

Hi all, I know this is isn't an antique piece of art but was hoping you might be able to assist in identification of the artist. I'm pretty sure I have seen his work before (a Sunday Morning segment is nagging me). I believe it is made from snippets of money/currency. I can't quite make out the signature to get anything from the google...Eberhard H. Scharpf...??? Bonus points if you can identify the different currencies! What would this type of artwork be called?

Well, I found one in California and another in Florida, but no "art".

Another one in Cheektowaga, NY who tried his hand at a lot of different things (there is a piece in the Buffalo Courier Express; Feb 6, 1955; "A Busy Man in His Spare Time"). That would make him too 'old' I think. I always seem to find these things that are impossible to pin down. Maybe that's why they are only a dollar most of the time :O)

The one from Buffalo died in 1986, but there also appears to be a Jr. Living in Astoria, Queens in 1990.

 

I'd call it a collage, and it looks nicely done.

I just bought one of these and he attached a note to the back stating that "this picture in every detail is made entirely with cancelled postage stamps" mine is of a bird in a flowering bush... 80 cents!

 

That is the name on a piece i found recently, the artist note on the frame states it is made entirely of cancelled postage stamps. Mine is of a bird in flowering bushes, 80 cents, and it looks old...

 

Interesting. Never seen anything like. Can be (sorta) dated by stamps. Here's Maine Statehood.

A 1980 article in an Albany NY-area newspaper reported “...the winner of Best in Show (at an arts and crafts show) and a $100 prize was Eberhard Scharpf of Cheektowaga for his mixed media collage forming very detailed pictures using postage stamps.”
