Described as a heavy metal vase!

    Hi everyone

    This ornate metal object is described as a heavy metal vase. I really don't think a vase would have been fixed down. I've Google'd the picture, without success. Stumped.. haven't the foggiest what it could be.
    It's stamped Japan just inside.
    As always, your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Perhaps attached to a missing base-newel post maybe.How tall is it ? Would it have been used in a church,hotel,theater ?

    Without the Japan mark I could see this on a Japanese Buddhist altar.

    Its height is approx. 51cm. Possibly !
