Featured Silver in silverplate lot box

This was at an estate that said "box of silverplate" $5. I noticed a few sterling things and decided to grab it. Items on the right are marked sterling. A few questions...



I know that the sterling rimmed glass coasters have minimal value, but hopefully will make a few bucks.

Was wondering if this ladle would be scrap (has a small dent) or resale? Anyone recognize the mark?

This little guy, not marked and seems too heavy for sterling. I assume sort of finial that goes in a candle stick or similar? Is there a name for this?



Will most likely donate everything left, but had a question about this candle holder. Super heavy, unmarked, almost positive silverplate due to weight alone. Seems broken. It has all the inserts. What would you do with it?

I think the finial thing would have been used to place inside a candle cup that was not otherwise occupied by a candle.

The 2 larger coasters would have been used for wine bottles.

 

You should be able to push out the dent in the ladle, there are special silversmith tools but I usually improvise something, I usually use an old bone busk stay and a leather covered hard surface to push onto. If you make a pigs ear of it you can still scrap it but it is the sort of small serviceable thing that sells easily for more than scrap.

Any idea what to call this shape? Is there a better word than "ladle". Ladle is bringing up more of a long handled utensil.

Lucille, is that lid marked at all? It looks like the lid to a little dresser box, If you measure across the inside lip, I'll bet you can find a glass base to fit it!

 

The lid is marked sterling and realized there is an inventory # faintly etched above. (Red is reflection from my shirt.)

Yes suppose it had a glass base at one time and one might be able to pair something up. Here is a blurry pic of the "sterling" and a better pic of the top without reflections. Seems to have a monogram. AMS?

 

Definitely a piece from a dresser set. It looked like a mirror back at first, but it's not. I'd sell it as is and see if someone else had a base, or possibly the rest of the set.

 

The dresser/powder jar lid would go to a cut glass base.

Pressed glass bases had silver plated lids.

 

I have a gorgeous cut glass dresser jar missing its lid. It was too beautiful to get rid of, and I thought perhaps someone had scrapped the lid. The opening is 3 1/2" D (hint, hint). The monogram doesn't quite fit in the family, but close. My grandmother's initials were ADS.

 

Usually you find the jars without the lids, not the lid without the jar because someone has scrapped the sterling lid.

Wanted to post how a perfectly good beautiful sterling lid got together with a beautiful cut glass jar and just look what we have now.
