I need help from our awesome experts!

I found another spoon today for $1.00 at the antique mall. It is 8 inches long.
I can't seem to figure out anything much about it. I'm thinking German, but I'm probably wrong! I'm not finding great info online about German silver marks.
Did any other countries use the loth system?
Am I seeing loth marks? 13-1/3? Or is it 12?
The maker looks to be I. Dahl

There is also an inscription picked out on the back.
I'm at a loss about this one. Any help would be appreciated!

I'd always guess a Dahl to be Danish

and 13-1/3 is about .830 not sterling

but the 12 could be German city Zerbst

Dahl is very Norwegian to me too, as in Roald Dahl, whose parents were Norwegian.

I think you may be correct about Norway! My marks are similar to the one you linked.
My spoon has the 7 dots, 13 1/3 and 5/M.

Yes! But what does it mean? Personal initials and a last name, I suspect?

I think so, Aarvik is a Norwegian surname.

Hi The number 12 denotes the silver content (12 Loth), equivalent to 750 silver.

It might if it did not already have the 13-1/3 lot mark to the left. The 12 is not fineness in this case.

I have a very incomplete understanding of older Norway markings but I think the 5M might denote month and the other number the year. I read it first as 12 however I don't know that they were still using Loth in 1912 so I'm thinking it might actually be 72 for 1872.

Just sort of guesses from my inadequate knowledge. Hopefully someone can fact check and fix my guess:)

They began to use the millessimal system in the early 1890s. 1891, if I remember correctly. So you're right, it could be 1872, although I don't know for sure.

Norway was also Swedish for a great part of the 19th century, but I don't know if that affected marking.

I should have remembered the Bergen symbol having had a number of them before. Alzheimers coming.

I don't think Norway ever had a date code. Those stamps are more likely assayors or something.

I'd forgotten the seven mountains of Bergen (and I love Bergen). Talk about memory:wacky:

Bergen, 13-1/3 lød (approx. .833), assayed in May of 1872 - sorry, no time at the moment to see if the maker is in my references...
