I am having trouble researching this nice little piece ... possibly a soup tureen? The Germany back mark is not coming up in any google searches or maybe I am just not searching it accurately. Can you tell anything about this piece? Due to the simplistic nature of the mark, can we tell if it is modern or a mass produced piece? - Thanks, Ken

If I am remembering correctly, people used to call that a Germany lifesaver mark or a donut mark.
That's all I am able to contribute, except to say it is very lovely and beautiful.

If it's for Brussels sprouts that would be more than enough for most people.;)

Depending on the dimensions, it could be a sugar bowl or a cookie jar. I'm leaning towards sugar bowl. The German "donut" mark was used by many factories and apparently almost impossible to identify a specific factory; quality is often middling decorative stuff, and this is likely early 20th c.

Steam them, split them lengthwise, sear the cut surface in good maple syrup.

I would call this piece a covered vegetable server. It seems about the same size as an open vegetable bowl. For peas, glazed carrots and yep, even Brussel sprouts.

Methinks, given the fact that it is covered in roses and flowery gold embellishments, that it is not for humble sprouts (or any other green or orange vegetable), but it is a good old Victorian sugar bowl. The kind that used to be on the table next to a creamer and/or a substantial milk jug. Remember all those Cratchit-like big families? And porridge for breakfast?

Incidentally, those measurements are only a half-inch off my own sugar bowl. But then I only have three children. :)
