Has anyone seen one of these? I spent hours researching it yesterday.

There is a very worn "sterling" mark, and there is a hallmark on the small piece, left, at the end of the tube hinge. Very hard to see, looks like a rooster? I have only seen one reproduction brooch on the internet somewhat similar. I have seen this form in architecture, paintings, and sculpture.

Repro link on ebay, for reference only:

I overlooked this $2 piece for weeks at a local thrift shop. Thanks for any insight you can shed.

I have, but I can't think where.:banghead::banghead: I hope someone else will know.
It is probably difficult to photograph, but can you show us?

I will try. My old Samsungs took much better close ups. Hubby has an older model, will use his.

    Is that a trombone clasp?

I had to check as well, there is a pull thingy on the left and you can see the thin tube just peeping out of the thicker tube.

If you're on an iPhone, there is a magnifier that you can enable to zoom in on small details such as the hallmark. I get a heck of a lot of use out of it.

Please go here to see how to enable it:

To save the image you zoom in on, you have to long hold on it, and then tap Save Image.

Marko, your brooch should not be described as "Cubist." Cubism is an art movement that depicts an object from multiple viewpoints, not just one as yours does.

Thanks, geometric it is. I can't get a close-up on the hallmark. Even with my strongest loupe it is hard to see. I do think it is the real deal, Art Deco era.

I wonder if it's not French. They used different marks for areas. Many of these marks were animal. You might check out French silver marks. Nice piece.
