Long story short, was gifted this table by an old friend who's mother passed away and he didn't want it. I think it weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-400 lbs, but not sure. Anyway, with my 2 sons we went to pick it up, carefully bringing it down a flight of stairs and into my Van. Got it home and arrrggh.. I pulled a boneheaded move and scarred the beautiful mahogany table top surface. It has 2 additional leaves that extends the table to 14 feet long. It has 3 claw pedestal bases. So here's my question, what would be the value of this table especially now that the surface has been damaged :( sad face :( I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. 2PXL_20230202_213606894.jpg 2PXL_20230202_213712160.jpg

Perhaps it can be restored in place at your own home. I wouldn't hesitate to call a wood worker or ten.

Don't beat yourself up over this! The color can be filled and matched closely by a professional who can test the surface in an inconspicuous place and match the finish. It may be shellac or old timey varnish, so find someone who has done furniture restoration for a living forever. They'll be old.

Oh, I shouldn't qualify that like that. We do have a member who is young and a jewelry restoration artist. Perhaps she will have some good advice for you @kyratango

Hey thank you for the tips and suggestions and tagging of those of experience.. I can probably do with the scratch/scar given that it did bring some nice pads and all, but any idea what it's value? It's a monster of a table and although it could fit in my dining room it just might not be fesible given the size of it and will have to go.

It is a replica of a Chippendale dining table. It was once the centerpiece of a large set. These sets usually have at least 8 chairs can run upward of $25K new. The last set with 10 chairs we tried to sell at $8K, had no takers over a 3 month period. Without the chairs, I would think it an even harder sale.

This very similar one sold for $600.00.

This one sold for CA$350.00 (US$263.00)

I see other selling for as little as $100, while a few nicer ones can bring more than $3K.

Value is really dependent on where and how selling. Your chances of selling this improve greatly if in or near a large city.

Re Brad-'Value is really dependent on where and how selling. Your chances of selling this improve greatly if in or near a large city.' Living in one of the most expensive cities on earth should def improve the value.
PS-When we first got married we considered renting a flat in S.F. for $500-$600 a month !

Just realized the OP is in San Francisco. Might contact local auction houses to see if interested and for an auction estimate. Once have an estimate in hand, could list locally at or near that price.

Yep Will, back in the old days everybody from Janitors to Doctors,Beatniks and Hippies could afford SF...then Tech hit and it became a monochrome Nerd wasteland w/ just a few homeless folks nipping for scraps.

I landed in SF in 1981 . I got a job at Natural Rush white honey and rented a studio apt for $45 a week ! I ate at Hamburger Marys for lunch every day for months. 1st place I ever saw a pac man machine. All told I was there about a year and had a grand time indeed. Lots of good memories.
