Can anyone tell me about this doll? It’s very old. Stripes on dress look painted.

I'm afraid I don't have time to search right now, but the first thing that came to mind when I saw the markings on the back of the doll's head was BONOMI, Italy.

(I could, of course, be wrong.)

Looks like she makes noises of some kind? Crying when moved a particular way? Anything?

I'm afraid in the grand scheme of things she doesn't look "very old."

Hard plastic, 1950's early 60's, original clothing, made in Italy, Great Condition. ... Joy.

My guess is that she made a sound that was close to 'mama', like those gizmos that make a mooing sound when you turn them over.

Yes, either a crier or a Mama voice box. Most do not work today.

The name could be BONAMI, with an A.:)

It does look a bit like an A, but if you click to enlarge, it looks more like an O.

    Google corrects Bonami to Bonomi.

All I can think of is Bon Ami......the scouring powder..........

I was thinking it was for a sound but unfortunately does not work. This was my mother’s doll (she was born 1939).

Plastic was developed during the 1940's so the timeline is right, ... Joy. :)

I was able to take a picture of the inside leg joint. I didn’t really want to pull too hard because it is fragile. This really does not look like plastic to me, nor does is feel like plastic. Please see attached picture. Maybe this was originally my grandmothers doll, she was born in 1914......

Composition. Not always easy to tell from just a photo but your last photo tells the story of what the legs are.

Yes, now I see the insides Judy is right .. composition. I think because of her features I would date her to late 30's early 40's. Her paint is still in very good condition, it did look like plastic from the photo but her weight alone would have revealed her makeup, much heavier than plastic. Sometimes one would love to hold it in hand and the answer would be revealed. Well Done Judy ... Joy. :):):)

You're absolutely right Joy! Holding in one's hand can make all the difference in the world.

She has been well cared for, that's for sure.
