Usually I am well versed in timepieces however this piece slays me. What is it exactly? Were you meant to carry it in your pocket like a pocket watch? Is it a travel desk clock? Anyhow all I know is that it swings out and is 14k gold. The brand on the dial says Schultz and I can't find anything on them. The only similar thing I see online is J Schulz who made several pieces for Cartier in the mid 50s which would line up with this piece as well. Any input is appreciated as always.

I'd call it a purse watch.

    Beautiful, spart.
Jon could be a woman's nickname, I've heard worse.
No seconds hand, like most ladies' watches.:banghead: After all, they didn't need to worry their pretty little heads about seconds, telling time is complicated enough without that.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

See, that's why women didn't have to worry their pretty little heads about them. They just had to wait patiently at home if hubby came home alive.:(

How does it open? Is there a release mechanism, something you push? Does the cover spring open & stay open until pushed back? From photos it looks like you get it open by prying up the lid with your thumbnail & then have to hold it open or it will fall back. Is that a hinge below 6 o'clock? Does the watch mechanism flip out? There's an asymmetric bit between the 1 & 2. Place where you can get a hold on the watch to move it?

The interesting thing is it doesn't have a bale. So it would just bang around in a purse, but could sit opened on a bedside table. Hopefully on a cruise ship.

Maybe missing a travel case? Neat watch, @spartcom5 :)

I'm wondering if it would sit open if the watch were flipped up 90 degrees, maybe holding the cover open at the same time.

Yes, given that, of course :) But waiting for @spartcom5 clarification.

My dear mom's pocket watch swings out and stays open...

It it works the way a travel clock generally does, the watch will lift up when you poke a fingernail under that tab at about 2 o'clock and it will rest against the inside or edge of the case lid and stay open. It may also just fold out so you can set it. Laying in the case nothing can get at the crown and change the time on you. (Genie Houdinicat! You know who you are!)
