Big Knife Help Please

Hi all,
Trying to find information on the big knife, seems big to me, overall length is 14 3/4", the blade length is 9 1/4. Dragons on one side, a bat on the handle, maybe Chinese writing on the blade? No other marks on it. You can see the seam on the case, not straight but a zig-zag? Has matched up the design very well. Looks like thin wood inside the case where the blade goes into.
Souvenir piece?

Looks like a tourist piece with a replacement blade made from a bayonet.

lol, thank-you Scoutshouse I don't mind small knives but larger ones I'm not comfortable with.

 

Bayonets with double fullers are highly unusual...but do exist.
Although I don't think yours comes from a bayonet.
The blade is nicely made...but I'd say hand made as opposed to taken off a military item.
While the handle looks functional, it's not made for any extensive use , and the sheath is so nicely decorated that all told it could be a ceremonial item, or yes...a highly evolved tourist item.
It would be nice to know what the script on the blade says.

Thanks komokwa so if this isn't a blade from a bayonet would the lines/indents on the blade still be called 'fullers' or is that just for bayonets?
It is quite heavy to me, it weighs 556g/1lb 3.6oz.
The design is nice, which made me think souvenir. I think the writing is Chinese but could be maybe Japanese, I just don't know.

Yes...fuller...also called ...in error...a blood groove, is used on a wide variety of blades....

Any chance you're dealing with silver.....that weighs a lot !!

well that would be nice if it was silver, I just assumed it would be silver coloured tin/metal. I just checked it with a magnet and there is no reaction, so maybe?

Gee that looks similar, so could be from Tibet. Will have a look around in that direction

 

Sloppy quality possibly made by some Chinese guy in a back alley shop trying to make a Tibetan knife.

Ya...maybe somewhat...but there's a lot of handwork there, & the overall design is very pleasing to the eye.
The wood inside the sheath to protect the blade wasn't totally necessary..but it's a nice craftman's touch !

It looks Chinese to me, possibly a presentation knife or made for export. It could be low grade silver, maybe you can have it tested.
The Tibetan one is similar, only some details are 'Tibetanised', the lion for instance.
The zigzag seam is also used on many antique Madurese keris sheath covers, that has nothing to do with souvenir quality.

 

The metal on the handle and sheath may be Chinese paktong/paitong, an alloy of nickel, copper and zinc, (similar to German silver). The knife looks somewhat similar to this one, described as a knife made in eastern China for the Bhutan market:

I wondered about the wood inside, wasn't sure if that was normal or not.

thank-you AJ do you have any ideas on who might be able to read the marks on the blade? there is a lion on mine? I'm still thinking not silver, just a mixed metal.
I wondered if the seam indicated age or if that is just the way they are made/still made?
