    Hi Peter, and all,

    I'm am Australian of Indigenous descent and have an appreciation of history and it's systemic aspects.

    I joined the Antiquers in the hope of broadening my knowledge and indulging my interest.

    I am quite impressed by the quality of this operation, and by the very kind support provided by those with expertise, in readily assisting others.

    With appreciation and best regards,
    Mark

    Hi,

    As a newbie please excuse my ignorance if I am not in keeping with this collectives protocol ?

    Several years ago I purchased an artifact from a regional antique dealer whom was unable to provide a background. I have always felt this to be a tribal item from either the African or Middle Eastern cultures. I have over the years conducted online research however had not located anything resembling the artwork. Until recently when I happened upon a piece ( second photo) associated with the Tuareg peoples, who have a unique blend of the two cultures I had considered.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuareg_people)

    This particular piece is adorned with either ivory or at least bone embellishment along with a pliable embossed metal leaf - there are no written markings. There are 2 doors that open from the back, held by a small wooden block. I suspect due to the detail that it is antique of strong cultural significance as it appears too crude to be a reproduction. And the adornments although similar have minor differences, so I do not expect that they have been mass produced.

    I am hoping members would please offer opinion.

    With appreciation - Mark

    komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    Alert !!!
    Protocol breach !!!! :eek::eek::eek:

    Here's how to remedy the situation, before it gets so out of hand that I ...in my exalted position of.." No Body Special " ...have to issue a Didgeridoo Red Alert !!:eek:

    Pick the Tribal Forum
    Start with a title that includes a clue as to what the item may be.
    post actual photo's of the item you are asking about
    describe ...as above, what you know of the item
    give sizes.....and up to 8 pics ...each being less than 1 mb ib file size

    & we'll take it from there !!!

    We're fair dinkum here !!!!:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

    Haahhaha -very good komokwa - I found my way through the system ( to the tribal art section) not long after I posted, but then I wasn't able to find a way to delete the initial post - in the hope to avoid the 'newbie' shame factor - however faster than a goanna in a bushfire, you've tagged me :joyful:

    Many years ago I lived on Kuringgai land, just north of your nation's homeland. Both are beautiful parts of the world, where you can feel deeper layers of presence, if you are open to it.
