What is written on the reverse of golfer?

 

I’m not sure if the pin has been soldered on top of the makers name as I can’t make it out. Definitely starts with a G E(F?) S( backwards Z?) then after the pin is ? S H or something similar!

The orientation of the pin on the back of the golfer is odd: usually, when the pin stem is mounted vertically, the hinge would be at the top & the clasp at the bottom, so that if it came open on its own, it wouldn't just drop off.

 

My favorite is the multi-colored gem brooch.

 

I agree, it's very pretty.

 

Blue one is from India. Little turquoise chips in resin. Dress clip is 20s or 30s, may be French. Enamel flowery one is same period, Czech.

Very popular there, even I used to play golf when I lived in OZ.

Do I detect a love of amber, both real and faux?
Love the reverse carved amber pendant, lovely detail. That is either Polish or German. Any marks? If not marked, probably older German.
Did you do the UV test on the amber necklace with the dark inclusions?

You have found me out!. I have an embarrassingly big box of amber - just love it. Some of the faux stuff is rather lovely too but I try to find the slightly older bits or those influenced by Deco fashions like the one with the dark inclusions. I’m tight as anything too, I only buy for pennies so I have to really look for the hidden gems.
None of the necklaces are the real deal- the dark ones and the right hand orange ones are glass and the fiery orange are some sort of plastic but I thought they were a stunning colour.
I can’t find any marking on the amber reverse carved pendant. It’s definitely Amber as it fluoresces. and tests as silver so that’s useful to know it’s probably German. When you say earlier- what date span do you mean?
I picked up a confusing piece of what looks like amber but I don’t think it is. I will give it its own thread!

 

Same here. And I also have ethnic faux amber. Some real as well.

For a long time the Germans were pretty careless with marking. They began to mark more in the 70s, and now most of their jewellery is marked.
My guess is that this is 1960s.

 

Interestingly, the darker red beads really fluoresce!. They are definitely glass as I can see the bubbles but something in the glass is very reactive to UV. Think they are quite old by the knots and the clasp.
