Odd Piece of 1876 Ephemera, Political

Hello all!

Hope everyone is having a lovely fall!

Found this interesting little piece of paper.

Does have a bunch of significant date in history on it.

Looks to be from 1876.

But not sure what it is exactly!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How little is it?

 

It looks like sort of like an "It Happened on this Date" calendar accent thingie.

Somebody here will figure it out...

 

About 3 inches or so, by 2 1/4, or 1/2.

Sorry don't have it with me right now!

 

I just don't understand the 1 M, C 3 stuff lol

 

Interesting, but has me totally perplexed. I assume it may have been issued somehow in connection with the first centennial celebration, but the bits of data included seem like an odd mix. And I have no clue what the letter/number combos mean.

 

NJ joined the union on that date... 12-18-1787...

Could be, looks to be a child's handwriting. And it would put her around 6 or 7 years old.

 

Looks to me like something "numerological."

I haven't a clue either on the purpose of this paper, card, mini poster...; however, the only Ira Maghan I could find around this timeframe, 1876, was living in Freehold, Monmouth Co., NJ. He was born in 1869/70. He was still living in Monmouth Co. up to the 1920s. In 1918 Old Ira was in a car crash in Red Banks, NJ. It was noted he was of Wickatunk that is in Monmouth Co. His father was a Jacob Maghan. In 1876 he would have been 6 or 7 yrs.

Ooops, was about to post this message when noticed that loro-rico found the same Ira. Oh well, will post this reply anyways.

BTW, this Ira is male. Censuses for 1900 and 1920 have him as head of household.

Delegate card to hear political speakers?

 

Just a thought, could the 1 M C 3 or however it should be written, be a ticket to something. Meaning something like 1st Mezzanine, row C, seat 3???

Just beat me to it, I think it's a card from a19th. C card came on a par with top trumps crossed with Trivial Pursuit.

 

I think you've probably nailed it... kind of like today's Trivial Pursuit.

I was wondering about the grid on the back... maybe to jot notes, or keep score?
