Lets create a scenario where you are at an estate auction and in a momentary lapse of judgment you wave at a friend across the yard. The auctioneer sees motion, accepts your bid and then hammers down the gavel with you as winning bidder! You mention the mistake to one of the ringman but he says sorry all sales are final, no bidders remorse returns.

In a worst case scenario what object or objects would you be the proud new owner of?

    My entry: heavy old piano.

Joe, my older sister once "won" a rather ostentatious opal and diamond cocktail ring that way!

Poor Joe! Mine was almost a stuffed owl. (I think the autioneer could see my father's outraged face even from the stage...or maybe it was the steam...)

I did what came to the equivalent early on in my eBay cameo buying. I bid on a 2 cameo lot, interested in having only one of the two so, I thought, placed a modest bid. Pleased to win, startled to find out how much I had agreed to pay. Did not try to back out, as I knew I must have inadvertently entered an extra digit. As I became more knowledgeable in the field, came to realize my accidental acquisition was quite a good one after all.

Makes me think of the clip in Tomb Raider where Lara Croft accidentally bids 2.4 million :hilarious:

I have to think about this. But the stinky mattress is a good answer.

I think the mattress wins. I've only been to a live auction once, so I've been relatively safe. Did get some repro dolls that time, but it wasn't a horrible buy.

As long as she got a good buy...! Gaudy jewelry is good.

It may not be my first time playing "worst case scenario."
