    Hi folks,
I started the thread on the expanding library table and someone mentioned that I should introduce myself here as well.
    Nice to join your group!
That thread is in the link---> HERE.

To introduce myself- born in '73 living with my wife and kids in coastal Wilmington NC. I'm a Realtor by trade. We live in a '68 brick ranch and enjoy vintage furniture, going to estate sales, yard sales, I'll even stop the car on the side of the road to salvage furniture at the curb. I like most things vintage- cars, stereo equipment, speakers, furniture, tools, art...

Thanks for the warm welcome so far, cheers!
    John

PS since I know everyone loves photos of vintage items, here's my latest stereo setup, on the library table in the thread mentioned above as a matter of fact... (I know this doesn't really pertain to this site, but fun to look):

Welcome, just so you know I had a setup like that in the 70's so I guess that makes me "Vintage"

Welcome! I, too, am a big believer in checking out the side of the road. I once acquired a monster music center that way. (Had to stop a guy in a passing car to help me get it into the station wagon.)

It was appx. 4' high, 5' long wide, and 18" deep. Didn't even know if it played! But I had a perfect place for it, and I needed something for my vinyls. Lo and behold, it fit perfectly, and the sound was MAGNIFICENT! (Also, WQXR came in as if I were in the concert hall.

Hated to have to give that up when I moved! :(

Welcome, John! It's great to see the "next generation" coming up with an interest in older stuff.

Coastal NC! Lovely area with plenty of retirees from "the north" bringing in their treasures. My parent's retired to New Bern in the mid-90's and the number of folks they already knew (some for decades!) was quite surprising to me.

Hi John, welcome ! I remember back in the 70s getting a pioneer stereo system from my uncle when he upgraded,it took up a whole wall in my bedroom, but the sound was magnificent. I still miss that stereo !

Yes that's a Pioneer SX-650 from I believe 1976 or '77. The Marantz record player paired with it produces a nice warm sound. Have maybe 100 of my deceased Grandparent's records, plus I've picked up about 100 more along the way.
Fun to hook the Ipad to the receiver and play Pandora etc. through it.

I'm not against dumpster diving, roadside acquisitions, and the 'free' section of craigslist. I like to post stuff on the free section as well, and put out a nice large wicker basket by the street the other day, gone in 15 minutes to an eager motorist passing by. Also took a SUV load to goodwill.

Not really vintage, but picked this system up at an estate sale... sounded awesome, but my wife said it was too big and too loud. Sold it for a slight profit.

Traded these plus $50 for the (reconditioned) Marantz in the photo above.

I could go on and on with the audio equipment, my wife thinks I have a problem, and for some reason DOES NOT appreciate a large loud stereo system in the formal dining room? Who knew!
