Featured Old 800 silver powder compact date/origin

Please can anyone tell me about this compact?. It’s tiny ( just 3.5cm across). Bought in a job lot of jewellery described as a dolls compact!- lucky doll . I’m thinking more for an evening bag?.
I’d love to know anything more about it please?.
I’m presuming the puff and box started life together otherwise I would think pill box?
Sorry the marks aren’t clear- best I can get. Seller said it was unmarked but they are there.

I believe that size would have been perfectly appropriate for a ROUGE compact.

I second the rouge compact idea. Right up until the 1950's rouge was available in this size compact. The rouge disc would have nicely fit into the ledge seen in the base, leaving room for the puff. There may also have been a mirror in the recess we see in the interior of the lid.

 

I think the puff is every bit as cool as the compact. It fits the diameter of the box perfectly, but also takes up most of the space top to bottom. If little box was for rouge, wouldn't puff show some trace if it were original to it? I remember it being a big deal when rouge stopped being something that came in a little pot & had to be smeared on with the finger & became a powdered product called blusher. This sweet little thing surely predates the transition?

When my Gram was a teenager she was not allowed to wear makeup. So when she was going out she used to spit on a rose in the wall paper and rub it on her cheeks.

You have to fold the little ring down on the puff to close the lid. Unless it's not original to the pot I don't think it would fit a mirror or rouge as well. Once powder was in there it would be pretty much full.

 

Does that help date it at all Cheryl?

In 1914, Bernhard's youngest son, Martin Mayer, was born.
In 1938, because of the Jewish background of the family, the company was confiscated by the Nazis while Martin was on a business trip to the Netherlands. He then returned no longer back to Germany, but fled to England.

Sadly doesn't narrow it down much!
