large panoramic view of a French Riviera

    It seems an hand coloured photo to me....but i've never seen something similar...on the back olny the number 1490..the picture(?) is about 50 cm x 20...i'm puzzled
    about what it is and the date

    Those enormous ladies' hats were fashionable in the early 1900s.

    I know now it's a panoramic Photochrome, coloring technique used between 1880 and 1900...i don't know the artist but the place is "Promenade des Anglais", Nice, France :))

    The photochrome process continued to be used beyond 1900, although it had to compete with the newer technology of direct color photography. AJ is correct about the costumes dating to about 1900-1910 - Edwardian/pre-WWI.
