Bit of brooches through the ages.
All three very different but I’d like to know your thoughts on dates please?.
Please correct my amateur dating skills!.
    1) Victorian? Very cheap base metal and filthy but I thought it would restore quite nicely. I’m thinking pearls around the edge- would that be likely? Or Amethyst glass?. Around 2 1/2 in. across.

    2) Deco 1920/30? glass brooch.
Sandwich effect of transparent glass in the centre and opaque outside.

    3) This one slightly confuses me as elements seem very modern (the glass flowers are all in one not made up of several gems, the use of a sequin? as the centre of the flower..... then the diamanté, the style and the back make me think 70s?.
Either way I love this piece for the way it reflects the blue colours that keep changing. I need to replace one gem but I think I’ll have to use a plain diamanté in the centre.

    Thankyou for looking :)

Jivvy the research is my favorite

    1. I think it started with foiled rhinestones (or at least something pointy that meant the only needed glue was in the very tip of the well).

    2. Nothing useful to add.

    3. Margarita stones (glass)! Which happen to be a perfect match to margarita stones used in this 1960s Weiss piece (from Collecting Costume Jewelry 303 by Julia C Carroll)

Thankyou Jivvy :kiss:Just Googled no 3 and there are some stunning examples. I will try to source a matching gem for the missing one but suspect they are like rocking horse poo!

Edit- Could be easier than I thought.

I agree. For the replacements I would pick a colour that isn't too dark, but that is personal. Maybe more lilac than amethyst?

Thankyou M. I’ve got some crystals so I’ll try out a few colours.
Am I right in thinking Victorian do you think?

I think towards the end of her reign, ca 1900. It is sweet.
You will show us the result, won't you?:)

    I will do.
I'm getting better. I was thinking 1900 but usually when I put my money where my mouth is I've got it humdingingly wrong so wasn't quite brave enough to type it.
Do you think the whole thing was covered in those little white holed beads?. Tempted to replace those with tiny pearls. I suspect most will come off when I clean it as it's going to need a gentle bath.
Is the Deco one likely to be Czech glass do you think?

#1 is not Victorian. It has a simple c-clasp but the hinge is newer. JMHO, but I would date it to the 30s or 40s.

It will look much better once you fill in the rhinestones, but it also looks like a lot of the beads in the center panel are missing :(

Yes, I'm thinking I'll give it a gentle wash. Suspect the rest of those little beads may then come off so I may replace with tiny pearls rather than the holed beads. Lots of work and off on hols for a few days so time for consideration.

Here in Europe (including Britain) those round, thin hinges were introduced in the 1890s. KSW is in England and it looks like an English brooch to me. Which doesn't mean it can't have been made later, of course.
The reticulated part looks like it is already going towards that Edwardian lightness.

If the white beads come off I would replace them with similar beads, not pearls. This is meant to have a floral glass look imo.

    Enjoy your hols.:)
