"GERMANY" STAMPED PORCELAIN PLANT HOLDER(?) - BEAR CHASING INDIAN

Another find at a local thrift store - it's made of a unglazed porcelain I think, and depicts a bear chasing a indian around a tree. The details & paint are really nicely done - down to the tip of the Indian's boots/shoes painted gold!
It is stamped Germany with a number underneath on the back.
It also has 2 openings in the back that made me think it may be for plants? except the piece itself only measures 9" W x 7" T
What is this?
How old is it?

It appears to be ceramic than porcelain. Maybe somebody painted it in a ceramics class or did ceramics in their free time? My best guess.

Looks like bisque porcelain to me, perhaps a spill vase (dunno - are there 3 openings in the back and a cup in front?), and agree it's fairly well done, would guess late 19th century, maybe a bit later. Also looks like there might be a mark to the left of the numbers - personally, would probably start with looking at Unger, Schneider & Cie...

Well, figure it out quickly! That Indian isn't long for this world!

 

It has an unfinished look to it in my mind. Was partially painted bisque a thing?

Not unfinished - a century or so of wear to the cold painting...

Ah ha. Thanks for answering this. I was to figure out a circumstance where it would only be partially painted. This makes more sense.

 

If you look at the one Say_it_slowly posted, you can see considerable wear on it too, especially to the bear...

Can cleaning cause this? I removed the spinach jade color from a pair of Chinese lions that I put in warm soapy water to clean. I was shocked.
