Hi all, I’m no expert on Nesuke but I came across this for £10. Does anyone know how old it is? Was it a good price? Thanks for your help.

Here finally are some better photos. The item is roughly 1 inch by 1 inch. No signature. LOL - Holly's post did not appear for me until page refreshed when I hit post for mine. But now you know it must be true, since we both say so. :joyful:

I agree on tagua, which comes from certain 'New World' palms. I don't know when it began to be used for traditional Japanese carvings, most of which are made in China these days, but think the material places a limit on how old it can be & may cast doubt on Japanese origin.

Thanks all. I did wonder about it being a Nesuke because I couldn’t see any holes but this is very helpful. It now gives me a name. I could be wrong but I do think it looks more Chinese than Japanese. Still not sure of the age but I would surmise early to mid 20th Century.
