    I have this 1930s Djokja/Yogya silver brooch by Hubron Hadi, Java, Indonesia. So far so good.
    My question is about the seed or nut dangle. What is it, and why is it there. Protection, good luck? It looks like a miniature coconut to my inexpert eyes.

    @Silver Wolf , @Phaik Hooi , I am looking at you two in particular.:wideyed::playful:

    Thank you for looking.:)

    Wonderful, thanks S Wolf.:happy:
    Apparently longan has many health effects.:woot: But someone has already eaten the fruit.:(
    Maybe it was made into a dangle to ensure good health. But that is speculation, of course.

    do longan exist in netherland?
    hmm..i think this is kind of doing creative way to recycle the seeds,and never heard about using longan as amulet here,what about using avocado seed as amulet then?:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

    They are imported here. Maybe they are also grown here, we have people who grow lychees, so you never know.
    You mean like this?:playful:

    Or would you rather have a whole avocado?

    Maybe not, these earrings seem to be shocked at the idea:eek:

    whoaah i just realized that there're really someone who make this idea out there,:hilarious::hilarious:

    actually longan it's not lychee aj,longan in indonesia called kelengkeng,but they are from same family,it's abundant here so i think it make sense they trying to recycle the seeds!

    Just when you think you have a great idea, it has been done before.:arghh::hilarious:
    I know longan is not lychee but from the same family, which is why I said: Maybe they are also grown here, we have people who grow lychees, so you never know.;)

    I have an old book on Indonesian healing plants etc, I'll see if I can find it there. It also mentions some folk customs, so maybe....

    Durian is related to jackfruit (nangka). It is big, it stinks, but it tastes good:
