My wife and I bought this large round woven basket at good well and for the life of us we can't figure out what it is. It's at least 2ft around 18ins tall and the lid rotates. It looks like has copper around the top with twisted metal handles, a shelf inside and a fixed small metal ring in the bottom. Any information would be greatly appreciated

Yes bought it at good well in town, thought at first it was a foot stool, but when we opened it up and took pad off too we had no idea what it is, can't find one on Google anywhere.

Someone said maybe a steamer basket, but no one knows a year. Wife friend has one and he said don't know what it is, that his granddad used to carry picnic lunch in it. But he lives in another state and said this only second one he know of.

Can't tell if it is art someone did or if it is shadow of where something was placed. Is all know about the circles inside. The one in a metal ring attached to bottom.

If rotating it doesn't either tighten & hold it down or release it, a screw top basket, no idea.

    Pie carrier?

I wouldn't think a pie warmer, cause there is only one shelf inside and nothing else to help seaperate them. The mechanism i called it lol, looks to be just a fixed hing, it only lets the lid move side to side. No up and down or coming off.

Am I am understanding correctly: it allows you to open the container by swinging the lid to one side, still keeping it attached. Like the little cover over the peep hole in my door you push to one side to look out. Can you do this operation with 1 hand? Trying to understand how parts move & fit together. Right now I feel like one of the blind men feeling part of an elephant & trying to figure out what it is.
