Featured Victorian Alabaster Peep Egg!

    I’ve learned something today as I had no idea these even existed so I thought I’d share.
    A Victorian Peep Egg!
    Another save from the scrap box at a car boot sale.
    Similar to a Stanhope viewer but larger.
    The web says c1850/60 but no idea if that’s correct.
    Made of Alabaster to allow light through to the two curved scenes on a rotating pin to give a 3D effect and decorated with gemstones on the third panel.
    This one is ‘a present from Weymouth’
    My kids have loved looking at this :)

    I do that too. It’s how I unearthed the silver mounted box and the Georgian enamel etui. My three for a quid bloke was there today. Yay! I love scuzzy boxes.

    Delightful, K, thanks for rescuing such a fun treasure.:happy::kiss:
    I hadn't heard of a peep egg either, typically one of those fun souvenirs the Victorians were so good at.
