What's this old copper thingy ?

    Saw this yesterday & couldn't get a clue on what it is.Old copper/brass,hinged top,round 'barrel',abt 12" high by 12" round,with one side a carved out crescent shape,makers stamp,handle on each side.
    Turkish food container ?
    Any guesses or answers most welcome-Thanks !

    That's as good a guess as I've thought of.Seems big,but maybe to stack collars in.
    Should I buy it for $15 ?
    We passed up a lidded Le Creuset #18 Lidded Port for $30,but they're heavy,we've got arthritis (& we got TONS of stuff !).

    Someday I'll find something worthy of you Whit-I know you've seen just about everything.
    This piece could've been custom-made like the tinsmiths & metal workers of the 19th century.
    Maybe another container of some sort slid into the cutout ?
    I keep thinking street vendor of some sort-it's got loops for a hanger & a hinged lid.

    I'm thinking maybe a smoke-pipe...a chimney from a fire-box? To heat the liquid contents...gently?

    Dang Whit,I didn't think of that.A heating attachment of some kind makes sense.
