Vintage Pastel Landscape Signed Glatthaar

This is a thrift store find from last week. What was even better was, when I went up to pay for it, the lady behind the counter said, "We are doing 50% off pictures today!". I am pretty sure it is by the artist Albert Glatthaar (1879-1950). I understand the artist was a Midwestern artist and lived in Ohio. The picture is in great shape and measures about 40" by 18". I am guessing it wasn't in the sun much because it doesn't have that,"ghost image", you can see on the back of the glass sometimes. Any comments or added information greatly appreciated.

 

Think you're right re attribution. And, from this and other examples of his work found on internet, suspect Glatthaar was a decorative artist. Prolific and paintings meant to be hung and enjoyed.

Nice find-a quintessential Midwestern scenic 1920's romantic scenic artist.The pastel looks like it's in pretty good shape.
Pastels hold their color for decades but the pigment adhesion's as delicate as an antique piece of chalk ware.

 

Agreed, meant to be decorative. There is another Midwestern artist, very similar, named Andrew Gunderson. I have one of his pieces and I occasionally see them in antique shops. He tried to keep his work affordable, he wanted the average person to be able to have some nice original art in their home.
