Antique 4" tooth On long braded leather cord,Whale's tooth?

I bought out bags of old jewelry and found this strange necklace or I guess it's a necklace.Tooth measure about 4" long,on braded leather cord.I'm not sure what kind of tooth this is,is it a whale's tooth.Any idea

 

Tooth or claw?

 

It's a tooth,the top appears to be wrapped with black tape or some type of wrap.But it's not a claw

 

Could it be walrus?

 

What is the line across the middle? Is it made in two parts?
If it is one piece, I'm guessing one of the big cats.

Tooth pendants were popular in the 70s, I had one from Peru, set in silver. I never thought it was an actual tooth, but a friend who was a vet said it was, and probably from a puma / mountain lion.

 

Sometimes antler tips are carved to mimick animal teeth.

 

I believe from maybe age,it has lines around back also.it has a little discolor.The braded cord is long,there's fringes around tooth.

 

It's an Italian Horn, not a tooth.

 

Can you explain a little more,what's an italian horn,is it some type of animal or what.

 

I think Ruth means the "corno", a wavy horn symbol that is popular in Italy as a good luck and fertility symbol. This tooth isn't wavy though.

I've seen them both ways; Connecticut is about 1/3 Italian by ancestry. Could be a tooth too, but I've seen plenty of pendants of similar design that were made of anything except ivory/teeth/bone.
