    HeyHo Guys and Gals,

First of all please excuse my flaws in regards to the english/american language. I'll always try my best to get my root of the matter across.

Also I hope this is the right section. Unfortunately couldn't find "Merch" or something similar.

I'm a german salesman and started trading goods about 8 years ago in my midst 20's. Many times I faced new items I never thought I'd ever sell, but.. I'm an utter curious person.

In Germany online market places aren't always the best place to trade antiques. Furthermore the salability strongly depends on the region.

So I registered to get some opinions from overseas for some items which are hard to sell on the german and/or european market.

Currently I'm struggling with the following item. A "Felix the Cat"-Tray, which was sold in 1989 when the movie was released.

    https://ibb.co/album/HBrJ70

I have three of these in different conditions, but "Felix the Cat" is barely known over here.

Could you guys maybe assist and tell me, which would be the best place online to sell this product?

Thanks in advance for your time and effort (and sorry for the long a** text :-/ )

    Kind regards
    Theodor

    1. Welcome to Antiquers!
    2. Items made in the 1980s aren't our best area. Too new.

Someone who knows may be along later. Since many don't click links, you might want to post photographs including the marks on the back. Email to yourself, size Medium, and post the Medium photos.

Thank you very much for your fast reply and the advice.

I resized the images. Also thanks for the hint referring to this forum. I thought so, but it felt like the most fitting community after doing some research. Even though the items is definitely not more than 100 years old.

I'll wait for the person you mentioned, or maybe someone that could tell me a better place to ask.

I'm also in posession of german war brochures (WW 1 & 2) and things like that. So the registration might have been a good decision anyway.

Felix the Cat was introduced as a character in 1919, and I imagine it's the early merchandise (1920s-30s) that will have the collector interest.

Using "merch" as a search term is probably not the best idea. It's too vague and general a term. In English, it is just a shortened form of the word "merchandise", which can be applied to anything offered for sale.

There seems to be quite a strong collector market for Felix the Cat merchandise -- both old and new. I was a bit surprised by your pricing strategy though. Has it been successful for you?

Yes, you are right. The market increases when focussing on the earlier ones. There's a whole small world for this special merchandise and the trading prices sometimes are astonishing (to put it mildly). There's also a market for the later ones, but it's small, hard to find and I guess Ebay might not be the right "place to be", when it comes to it.

By the way.. Thank you for clarifying the term.

Yes, there is, but.. (as mentioned above).

 You are making me a little paranoid right now. Could you be confusing me with someone else? Are you doing it on purpose? :sour: What pricing strategy are you talking about?

    I DEMAND ANSWERS!!!! (pls..)

:jawdrop: No. Are you referring to the one from Japan?

I also encountered the problems many times, that I can't see items that are shown to citizens from other countries. Mostly because they don't sell internationally,.. I guess.

But also I'm now a little bit hyped for the tray I just found (thanks to your hint).

Interesting piece. Also the other ones offered by the same seller.

Antique merchandising material is generally called advertising material.
You aren't looking for antique, though.
I don't think you should focus on antiques selling venues. What you need are venues for collectables.
I know Catawiki holds specialised auctions for merchandising material from time to time, have you checked them out yet?

See.. already learned a lot after my registration.. 'twas a good idea :woot:

That's a hot tip! I saw this site already in the past, but didn't give it the adequate attention.

I'll definetely take a closer look now.

Thank you very much for your help.

When I am researching an item that is not well-known in my home country I will expand my research to the "home" country's ebay, auction houses, etc.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Dear @Theodor , As others have indicated, you could search for "sold" items on eBay from another country (in this case, USA) to see what prices have been paid for similar items. You could also do a broader search for sold items... for example, "felix the cat" "1989" -- this would bring up any items related to Felix the Cat that also included 1989 in the title. It would not be exact, but you could get a few ideas.

Also, in your own eBay listings, of course you would want to be sure to include the ability to sell to people in other countries.
