Featured Terracotta cat - help needed

I need help with deciphering this cat.
It is funny but seems old (considering the bottom part). Is it a hobby peace or something older?
The glaze is nicely done, and the cat looks so weird that it is 100% made like that on purpose

Also, there is a small tray that was in the same batch when I found the cat, and it looks quite similar.

What does folk pottery exactly mean?

I live in Germany, but we can find lots of pieces here from the Middle East too.

In my experience, usually when there is something that looks like a kids' drawing, it could always be an art piece

 

In German you would probably call it Bauernkeramik. Pottery that is specific to a region and often made by country people. It often has a naive charm because it isn't overly refined.
