3 3/4" rim diameter, ~4 1/4 shoulder diameter, ~2" high; weight is ~10 1/2 oz. It has been lathe-finished everywhere except for the cast quatrefoil? in the center of the floor....discoloration there seems to indicate past use as a smoker's ash-tray.
There are six characters, repeated in 4 panels. at the shoulder. They were harder to photograph than I thought...I'll try to do better, an' post 'em here if I succeed. I sure would like to know what they say.
The floral image on the base hopefully has some importance...perhaps a maker's mark? All comments are much appreciated! Thanks for lookin'!

It's the right shape for a "Tibetan" or Himalayan "singing" bowl. The symbol in the center of the inside is the Vajra - this is a double one.

Does it ring out nicely when tapped? You can try improvising a mallet out of a wooden spoon or similar.

EDIT: your measurements are pretty small for a singing bowl but I think it's still a possibility.

IIRC they often come in sets of multiple sizes, but that's a "dim bells" sort of IIRC. It does look to be the proper shape.

On the base is a lotus flower, symbol of purity.
Probably 'om mani padme hum' (the jewel in the lotus flower) in Tibetan script. It is the best known mantra of Himalayan Vajrayana Buddhism.
Below are the six characters of 'om mani padme hum', do they look like these?

    ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པ་དྨེ་ཧཱུྃ།

You bet...a long, resonant chime when struck. I have not yet tried stroking it, tho I'm familiar with the technique. Thanks...

What is the Formal name of this Tibetan script, AJ?
I tried Google Translate using 'detect language'; it called that script English. Thanks...

I thought it was Sanskrit, but my knowledge of Southeast Asian languages is suspect at best.
