I know. I know. This is yet another piece of Asian pottery of unknown etiology that you are being presented with. The only reason that I was curious about it, is that it came with a stand so someone, somewhere, somehow thought it was special. I can tell you that the decorations are either raised up from or lowered into the outer surface. Because there is a white line along both sides of the rim, I think it could have been covered with a pre-painted wrap that was pulled up on the interior and exterior surfaces rather than painted on. The mark on the bottom did not take well, and although it is under a glaze, it is barely visible. I bought this to understand about this type of pottery, so you can't hurt my feelings. Any comments would be appreciated.

I think it is 1950s/60s or later.
I don't think it is a new Chinese import.

Blooey. Thanks for your thoughts. I can usually assess modern factory stuff but that is all. So I thought I would ask. Kiko

Cluttered. I'd take that. That would make it 60/70 years old. That's not bad. I couldn't find anything out about it at all. Thanks for your thoughts. Kiko

Could be. I thought it looked like characters rather than letters, but I have no idea really. Thanks for trying to make it out.

It is Nyonya Ware or Peranakan porcelain, made in China for the Southeast Asian Peranakan market. These are now collected in SE Asia.
The blotches in the glaze and the remains of a mark are a sign that this is a genuine piece, my guess is first half of the 20th century. The red mark could have been the mark of a retailer.
The stand is not original to the bowl, and looks more recent. But as you said, a sign that someone thought it special.

The Peranakan or Straits Chinese are Southeast Asian people who are a mix of local people and Chinese. They have a culture of their own.

Peranakan ladies are called nyonyas, a Javanese term that was originally used for Portuguese and Dutch colonial ladies. The word nyonya is probably derived from the Portuguese 'dona', the lady of the house.
To combat the discrimination of Peranakan people and boost their image somewhat, locals were encouraged by the Dutch to call Peranakan ladies nyonya as well. The Portuguese and Dutch left Malaysia and Indonesia, the term nyonya remained.
The Chinese porcelain the ladies bought for their households came to be known as Nyonya or Peranakan Ware.

Here is something on the popularity of Nyonya or Peranakan Ware:

it's nyonya ware,i agree with half 20th century. And why it come with the stand, because it was purpose as display, nothing else i think, the stand looks like cheap chinese mass market product.mostly nyonyaware that i found here come from late 19th to early 20th century.the white lining in the rim,i think it's because it was created for mass market decoration so it have low quality,i dont think there're missing colour or pattern in it.sorry

WOW. WOW. and more WOW. (I love that it has a connection to you even if it is wispy.:joyful: ) Thank you so much telling me the place in history of this little piece. I never thought it was grand or well made but I had no idea it could be as old as it appears it is, since they stopped making them in 1945. I'm also glad you could see it is not a reproduction but an original made for export in an earlier time. I drank up that article like a fine glass of wine. The joy and enthusiasm of Mr. Wee was unmistakable. It is so cool that it is one of the more rare colors - yellow and that people are interested in gathering part of their culture heritage. After I read your post, it immediately went into my bookcase to protect it from my rowdy cats who could destroy something at least 75 years old in a flash. Thanks again. You are wonderful.

Silver Wolf. Thank you very much for taking a look at this piece. I never believed that it was a high quality piece, so no reason to feel sorry. I'm just excited that it is older and unique to a place and time. You are so lovely to tell me your thoughts. :):):):):):):)

Ah. There is a thin red line around the foot, so then this might just be missing on the rim. I didn't show it in the pictures.

You're rights that's the feeling mine has, but mine is a richer yellow and green but in the same range. These a very beautiful with the fluting, the rich detail, the mix of colors and the intensity of design.
