look what i found and a bit more bedtime reading for you

she says "The brightness of the colours is reminiscent of Straits Chinese or Peranakan wares, especially when grouped ‘en mass’, but this pattern is purely from the Chinese mainland and was produced much later than the Straits/Peranakan porcelains."

Peranakan porcelain is also from mainland China, and there seems to be an overlap in the dating. Nyonya/Peranakan from ca 1850-ca 1950, and this from 1912-early 50s. I wouldn't call that much later, just the latter part of the Peranakan ware period.

Maybe Watersilkdragon differentiated between patterns that are actually part of the same production?

I really want one marked CNIHA, btw.:D

Phaik Hooi This looks like my bowl, all right. I very much enjoyed reading her article, and her efforts to provide photos to help classify these beautiful pieces in such detail. Certainly a careful study of this form. I very much appreciate you tracking this down. My goal in all this is to learn how to spot better objects without a price tag to guide me. This article really helps in this regard. Kiko

AJ Thanks for putting these two posts in context. That was so helpful to understand the various pieces of information. Often at this resale shop, bits and pieces of someone's collection are placed out over time. I'll watch out for one with an CNIHA or perhaps a CRINA stamp to send you. :):):)

Thank you all very much for bringing you ideas to the table. I was almost ready to donate this back because I couldn’t find an example like it and I didn’t want to bother you all but I’m so glad I did. Because of you, this will be part of my small number of treasures because it evokes a time, a place and a people in such a charming way. I was so glad to meet the wonderful Mr Lee and the collector of bowls such as mine. Without you all this would just be yet another ubiquitous piece of porcelain shifted from person to person. Now it is a memory of all of you and the people who used it.
