What is this old tool Patented in 1887?

    Hi guys,

    I have this old tool from an estate sale and would like to know what it is. I do not see any maker on this tool and only see the words Pat Dec 10th, 1887. Can someone please help me identify this tool?

    I wish my (1970's) shop vice had a handle like this instead of the dumb sliding small rod :)
