Featured Ceramic ashtray? Sgraffito flowers - where from?

This little bowl or ashtray is 5" across the long ways and about 2.5" high. I believe the flowers on this one are done using the "sgraffito" technique - which leads me to guess this might be italian - but I'm just guessing. The only aspect of it that appears poorly done is the blue glaze on the rim ran down into interior in streaks. Thanks for looking!

Thanks CC, very interesting - a brand new avenue for me to research! I appreciate it very much - i can already see similarities based on a few images in my search.

I like it too Charlie! It was much too interesting to put back on the shelf for a measly couple of bucks...and really unlike anything I'd seen before.

Pretty good call CC, but I think that stuff uses more of a cuerda seca or resist technique (rather than scraffito) to isolate the design elements ..I'm going to guess this piece may be Japanese.
