My hubby and I cleaned out my mother-in-laws house after she passed away in 2000. We just put everything in boxes and stored them in our basement. Well, NOW is the time to sort through what she had and what is of worth. Lots of horse and hound type paintings/prints. Hard to know if any are of value. Here is one by C.E. Stewart. It ‘looks’ like a painting and the frame is quite ornate, but it is musty and dingy. Help. A36CAD4F-5036-4CA7-B623-1A53773184BB.jpeg

    Welcome Bbfarmer.
People will want to see more photos, also of the back, and close-ups.
There also seems to be a car driving through it.;)

I will take better photos. Just stopped long enough to grab a bite to eat and sign up on this site. I didn’t want to lose my focus. I will dive back into another box and see what surprises that one has. Hold tight. I’ll be back!!!

Is it under glass - I see too much reflection.
An oil painting wouldn't be under glass - so guessing this must be a print.

Please take pictures of any signatures.

Not strictly true, although more often they are not. However, when I needed to frame a 19th century oil on board, I researched the glass/no glass matter & advice was that if the paint is thoroughly dry, glass is OK. I went that route because I wanted to protect the painting from the oily stuff that falls as dust where I live & figured the paint had to be dry by now. She still looks fine.

I was so confused. Thought it was a Magritte-like juxtaposition or some joke on the concept of a sports vehicle.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I just popped in the house for a caffeine break. I need a little boost to get me through another box or two. Will report back when I take better photos

Ok, so upon actually looking at the ‘painting’, it does have some sort of paint texture but definitely not brush strokes. The label on the back is from Closson Art Galleries of Cincinnati. And some sort of serial number. I would up load the photos here, but the files are too large and my computer is taking forever to resize them. I did find another ‘painting’ by F. Handlen AF82D32E-5FEF-429E-A396-AECB7F203651.jpeg 98915F8E-4DB3-4417-808B-7A184EFC8642.jpeg and again, it’s from Closson Art Galleries of Cincinnati. I’m thinking even though my in-laws were well off, they wouldn’t pay big bucks for ‘real’ art. Anyway, here is the Handlen. Once I can resize the Stewart photos, I’ll post them too.
