Perhaps the legal problem was related to this reorganization, and the 1910 catalog was a piece of evidence in the case.

 

Plaintiff would have been National Cloak & Suit Co. Question is who was the defendant? As 2manybooks suggests, suit may have been related to business reorganization.

Perhaps we're being a bit fanciful? This was a mail order catalog that was sent out free upon request. It would be unlikely that the words "Present Catalogue to Plaintiff" on a Sears catalogue would have anything to do with the company. And think same here.

I agree that it was likely an "exhibit" in the legal action concerning the company... or possibly just in the possession of one of the lawyers concerned.

You'll need to read it carefully to follow, but I believe they dismissed a complaint and ordered a new trial. There is a description of the nature of the case.
