Going through my family history and vintage photos.

This is a picture of my dear Grandma in 1945.

She was an amazing woman, and led an amazing life....

In the late years of the Second World War, she became a nurse, that is how she met my original Grandfather. They divorced in 1955 leaving her with three young children to support. At this time she became a Nurse Matron at a hospital nurses residence, in charge of many young nursing students over the years of the 1950’s & 60’s. Through all the shift work, getting children ready to stay with family while she was working, she also took a job in a bakery to make ends meet being a single mother. The workers rights at the bakery were not well looked after, so she brought in a union, and made daily work life better for the workers there.

She came from a farm family, and knew what it took to work hard, she also inherited many multiple acres of land as a result.

She met her second husband in the early 1960’s (my second Grandfather and second extended family). They lived many happy years until his untimely passing at age 63.

This is just some of her life, I could take pages and write a book to say everything, there is so much more, so I just listed a few pertinent highlights.

She is definitely a hero of mine, and a mentor to me in my life. When I came into the world, she treated me with love unparalleled.

My Mom says I have a few of her traits. I just think there is no way I could ever be as incredible as Grandma.....

Damn it,who's cutting onions in here ??? My maternal grandmother had 17 grandkids and 12 great grandkids when she died at the age of 93 in 2005,but from the time I was born I was her favorite and she made no bones about it. I spent as much time at her house as I did my own.I never loved anything or anyone as much as I loved that old lady, and when she died a light truly went out in my world.14 years later and I miss her every single day. What I wouldnt give to kiss her soft sweet face again and smell that lilac talc she used religiously.

Family and friends were the world to her. She had this way even with people she just met and making them feel like they knew her for years, always time for everyone in her life.

Oh now I have tears, where are the tissues?
I miss my grandmother every day too.
She was a shining light that made me feel safe and loved growing up in a turbulent family.

This song reminds me of her and Sunday morning, I don’t think she ever missed a Sunday service if she could help it.

Thank You so much❤️ Music has always been important and present in our family whether it was actually being played and sung, or recorded music being played. Some of my best childhood, and forward memories are of family gatherings and song breaking out. So much joy!
