Some kind of cane… thing. Made of wood and wrapped in woven metal wire. What is it?

Discussion in 'Metalware' started by nutellakinesis, Feb 7, 2024.

  1. I bought this thing because it looked cool but I have no idea what it is or even if it’s old. Looks old based on the bottom wood peaking out but other than that i know nothing. Bought at an estate sale

WELCOME!!!! That looks like some sort of walking stick, possibly! I'm also pretty positive that, that kind of metal wrapping around the cane part AND the head of it MUST have a name.....I just can't think of it at present! Does it wrap ALL THE WAY to the bottom?? Others should be around soon! For future reference, it's best to post the FULL IMAGE/IMAGES, as it says at the top of the thumbnail list....your images look 'sharp' enough though! And you didn't give any measurements....that ALWAYS helps us in helping YOU!!!:happy:

  3. Oops! My bad. The stick is 33” long and the head is 1 3/4” wide

  4. Someone said it could be a Zulu Knobkerrie! I don’t know how accurate that is

HAHA!!! I don't even know WHAT that IS!!!! But here they are, a little larger & sharper......and Google says a Zulu 'Knobkerrie' is a form of a wooden club! Yours I would think would hold up better if you're 'bashing' something!!!!!!:joyful:

African, almost certainly. I had an Assagai with that steel weave securing the beautifully forged an' finished head to the shaft. Precision work...western part of the continent, but exactly where is a mystery to me.

  7. Do you think it’s worth anything? I still want to keep it regardless

    Not much valuation available here.
It's worth what you can get for it.
Too many variables to be more specific; try eBay.
