I personally feel that the Antique discussion forum category of "Textiles" is o.k. for linens, blankets, etc. but that the subject of rugs and carpets needs it's own catagory. It's really a specific and big part of the antique market! As someone who would like help identifying some small antique foreign rugs purchased at flea markets, etc. over the years, I almost didn't sign up here since there wasn't clear category and, consequently, very few posts about rugs.

    Welcome, @nadajda.

We have had previous discussions about refining the categories available on the site, but it seems we are limited to the way the program/software was set up in the beginning.

That said, there have been many discussions about rugs under the Textiles category. If you do a search for "oriental rug", using the search box in the upper right, you will find many examples of previous questions. (If you search only using "rug", there are too many to retrieve.)

So feel free to post your questions under Textiles, and we will do our best to answer.

Welcome nadajda, glad you decided to join us!
I do think any rugs inquiries will be seen and addressed under the Textiles heading just fine. There aren't so many questions about blankets and linens that any rug question may get lost, and the Textiles sub-forum is one of the smaller ones. If you post there, you're sure to get some help. :)

On the same subject, IMHO, a problem is those big collectible areas that don't fit anywhere and inquiries thereby land under the generic "Antique Discussion". Toys come to mind, and perhaps Sports, and Clocks, too... well therein lies a difficulty, the list could easily become quite large.

"Ephemera" probably too bluumz-a huge field that deserves sub-categories,but choosing/naming said subs would be no small task in itself.

Also check Tribal Art for rugs that are or appear to be Native American.

I almost didn't sign up here.........

but u did........... and you're throwing shade even before posting one item, before even seeing the awesome power we can bring to bear , before even trying to let us help you .

Maybe this site isn't right for you , and you would be better served by another site that deals only in flea market purchased rugs.

Thanks for the welcome and response. I do wonder why so few rug inquiries in the textile category. I still think it's worth a try to distinguish that category for clarification. Just my 2 cents.
