    hi folks

something i bought this week mainly for the old frame it was in (for another painting).

the engraving was a bad fit for the frame, so need to find another

seems quite a nice print though, probably somewhere in devon

has a OM mark in bottom corner

some foxing so has age i think

    any help or info appreciated

Cant help with location or artist, but it looks to me more of a woodcut than a wood engraving. Seems to me the lines on a wood engraving are usually much finer.

One of the last prints I purchased (and am likely to purchase) was this wood engraving titled "And Some Fell Among Thorns), by Samuel Valentine Hunt after William Trost Richards, 1863 ( not much known about either of them).

    And a detail:

As I've said previously (and only my opinion): wood engravings generally get little respect. Wood cuts frequently get even less.

Agree a bit large for a picture book but... the right side margin appears to have been torn from something.

yeah does seem to have been trimmed or torn on one side. i bet somebody did that to fit the frame, as it was such a bad match, and poorly done
