I have a metal piece that opens up to reveal a place to put something just don't know what! Could it be for glasses? Anyone know what this is? 20241027_172443.jpg 20241027_172147.jpg 20241027_172138.jpg 20241027_172212.jpg

Had a look but couldn’t find anything similar. Maybe a custom piece? Or for ink pots or emergency shot glasses? :) Also just for intrest sake is the design art deco?

I feel like there might have been some kind of insert in the bottom section. I'd say ink well, but two seems a bit much and that leaves that funny little indentation above them. Whatever it held, when you lifted it up, would have fallen out. Then you can see that the holes are rather shallow, have a base and there's a fancy lip on each that seems destined to hold something in place when lifted. Quaker Silver Co. made mostly tableware so then you think of individual salts and salt spoons in the small lozenge. That still leaves that large well to explain

The footed container measures 4" tall and the base is 2.5" wide. It is decorated with the same Art Deco floral design as the bottles. It is hinged and inside has a hinged flip top frame to hold a lipstick tube and has two rouge sections. The rest of the compartment held face powder. .James W. Jennings applied for the patent for this container in 1929 and it was licensed in 1931.

I thought it was pretty big, serving dish size. So yes, (mentioning the) size matters.;)
